Pet Partners Practitioner Insurance Program

At Pet Partners, we believe that therapy animals can improve human health and well-being. We are committed to supporting inclusion of this intervention, when upheld to its highest standards, in as many environments as possible.

Pet Partners handlers receive insurance that covers therapy animal visits conducted on a volunteer basis. We recognize that many scholar-practitioners who utilize therapy animals in their professional practice struggle in securing liability insurance for paid-for services that are inclusive of animal-assisted interventions.

Pet Partners is proud to pilot an insurance program designed for AAT/AAE professionals.

  • Interested practitioners are invited to complete an application appropriate to the type of professional services that will be covered (e.g., mental health, occupational therapy), along with supplemental information about your therapy animal(s), and submit materials to Pet Partners.
  • Please note that the insurance policy that you are applying for is comprehensive professional liability insurance and might replace your existing general professional liability insurance.
  • Submission of an application is non-binding. You will receive a quote for a policy with annual renewal terms. Should you choose to enroll, you will be directly responsible for all costs associated with your policy.
  • At this time, we are unable to accommodate facility animals through this program.

During this pilot phase, we are requesting permission to be included on correspondence between the insurance provider and the applicant, related to the Pet Partners Practitioner Insurance Program. This will allow us to better plan for and tailor the program as it grows into a larger-scale initiative in the future.
