IMG_1478Zoey was found lying in a ditch by the side of the road severely wounded in Indiana. When she was rescued she was within 1-2 days of losing her life. Upon examination it was discovered there were multiple fractures to the leg that she had likely been suffering with  for several months. The leg could not be saved and was amputated. This was not the only medical obstacle she faced.

Zoey’s rescuer, Diane and her foster parents Jen and Tim worked closely with her practicing her stability along with working to overcome her trust issues. With their positive environment she continued to improve all around. In mid May 2015 Zoey found her forever home. Once again her life was about to change along with those around her. After spending the summer getting to know her new home and family, Zoey began her journey to become a therapy dog.

With Zoey being a tripod, healing can be difficult. Zoey’s handler is always paying close attention to her pace as well as any stress signals she may display. “She looks to me for reassurance and I am able to read her feelings through her eye contact. Being able to read your canine’s feelings in various situations is an important skill to develop. I have found this skill has been extremely helpful due to Zoey’s past and her need for comfort and reassurance”, states Zoey’s handler, Monica Janning.

On 12/19/2015 Zoey passed her Pet Partners evaluation. If you were to see Zoey run and play you would never realize that she was within days of losing her life when she was found just one year ago. Zoey will go on to provide comfort and inspiration to those who need it most.
